The Rostock Historical Society, a non-profit organisation, offers walking tours in English starting at the Kröpelin Gate on most days when cruise ships are in port. There is no need to book in advance. The walk, at a very leisurely pace, lasts about 1 hour,taking in the history of the city, main points of interest and a few places not in the guide books.
The Guides all speak good English and either work full-time or are volunteers with the Historical Society. Tours start at 11am, cost 5euro pp.
The Gate opens at 10am and offers free, friendly advice and information about Rostock; exhibitions on 5 floors, cost 3euro pp; tea, coffee and fruit juices.
How to get to the Kröpelin Gate direct
from the Main Station.
Take tram #6 or #5 from platform A on the lower level and get off at Kröpeliner Tor (5th stop). Walk up the steps to the right of the Radisson Hotel, the tower of the Kröpelin Gate is right in front of you.
